Fluttering sounds fill the air as the exotically beautiful, black butterfly flits nearer to the sleeping figure on the bed. It lands softly on his head for a few moments, and then silently flies away. The next day, the man in the bed is discovered dead with no noticeable cause.

Could this be an odd twist of fate or was it a nocturnal stopover by a velvety courier of death?

WILMINGTON (AP) — It’s not clear what caused those booms that rattled south coast last week. But methane escaping from the ocean or even a small meteorite have been suggested as culprits.

John Huntsman is an associate professor of geology at UNC-Wilmington. He heard a boom on Friday but isn’t sure of the cause. There was a second Saturday.

It wasn’t an earthquake because there was no seismic activity. Military bases reported no aircraft exercises.

Similar booms have been heard along the South Carolina coast in the past. Suggestions have included methane bubbles being released below the ocean and breaking the surface.

Huntsman says some scientists have suggested they are caused by tiny meteorites hitting the atmosphere.

The Codex Gigas (“giant book”), also known as the Devil’s Bible, dates to around 1230 CE and is thought to be one of the world’s largest illuminated manuscripts.
   
The Codex Gigas was once considered the eighth wonder of the world; the book is three feet long and weighs a hundred and sixty-five pounds. It has 600 pages which, contrary to legend, are made from calf skins, not donkey skins.

The Codex Gigas includes a combination of texts found nowhere else. In addition to the full text of the Latin bible, the book contains herbals, history books, cures for dangerous illnesses, texts caring for the soul, medical formulas for treating illnesses and diseases, conjurations, and even solutions to problems such as finding a thief.

The term “window area” is a label most paranormal researchers are familiar with. 
This term denotes areas that have a prolonged history of supernatural activity.
Reports come from multiple witnesses over months, years and even decades. These
places often have multiple phenomena occurring, one phenomenon merging in an almost
seamless manner into another, seemingly separate, phenomenon. UFO witnesses often
encounter poltergeist (psychokinetic) activity after a sighting. Crop-circles are
often accompanied by orbs and/or livestock/pet mutilation. In these places the
phenomena also has a distinct feeling of interaction with the observers.
